First Solid Foods for Your Baby
Published on February 22, 2026
Introducing solids is an important step in your baby's development. Most pediatricians recommend starting around 6 months, but every baby develops at their own pace.
Signs of readiness
Before offering your baby solid foods, make sure they can sit with support, have lost the tongue-thrust reflex, and show interest in food.
BLW vs. traditional method
Baby-Led Weaning involves giving your baby pieces of food they can pick up themselves. The traditional method starts with purees and soups. Both methods have benefits — you can also combine them.
What to start with?
Good first foods include cooked vegetables (carrot, broccoli, pumpkin), bananas, avocado, and well-cooked rice or porridge.
