Babywearing — A Beginner's Guide
Carrying your baby close to your body is one of the oldest parenting practices in the world. It benefits both the baby and the parent.
Why babywear?
Babywearing supports child development, strengthens the bond, makes breastfeeding easier, and frees up your hands for daily tasks.
Types of carriers
The most popular options are woven wraps, stretchy wraps, ergonomic carriers (SSC), and mei-tai. Each type has its advantages depending on the baby's age and parent preferences.
Safety rules
Remember the TICKS rule: Tight, In view at all times, Close enough to kiss, Keep chin off chest, Supported back. Always make sure the baby's airways are clear.
Where to start?
For newborns, a stretchy wrap or a woven wrap pocket carry is most commonly recommended. Over time, try different carries and carrier types.
